About Janine Jansen
Her debut at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw in 1997 resulted in
invitations from all over Europe. Her London debut in November
2002, accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by
Vladimir Ashkenazy, attracted immediate worldwide attention,
and since she has appeared with many of the world’s most
prestigious orchestras, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra,
Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, NHK
Symphony Orchestra Tokyo and Sydney Symphony. She has collaborated
with such eminent conductors as Frans Bruggen, Riccardo Chailly,
Valery Gergiev, Roger Norrington, Sakari Oramo, Mikhail Pletnev
and Leonard Slatkin.
Janine Jansen holds an exclusive recording contract with the
Decca Music Group, and received great acclaim for her first
album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Barry Wordsworth.
Her second Decca disc featured Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons.
BBC Music Magazine praised the “ravishing sequence of
captivating sonorities that grow naturally out of the music
rather than being superimposed on it”. Her next disc features
the Mendelssohn and Bruch Violin concertos with Riccardo Chailly
and the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig.
Janine was a BBC New Generation Artist and in July 2003 made
her debut at the BBC Proms. In 2005 she was the star soloist
of the First Night of the BBC Proms, performing the Mendelssohn
Concerto with the BBC Symphony and Roger Norrington live for
television on BBC One.
In the 2006/07 season Janine Jansen will make her debuts with
Philadelphia Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra Washington,
Dallas and Detroit Symphony Orchestras. She will tour the US
with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra as well as making her debut
with New York Philharmonic under Maazel in the autumn. In Europe,
engagements include tours with City of Birmingham Symphony,
and Israel Philharmonic Orchestras, and concerts include the
Philharmonia Orchestra, Rotterdam and Czech Philharmonics, Orchestre
de la Suisse Romande, Frankfurt Radio and Mozarteum Orchestra
Salzburg.
Janine is a devoted performer of chamber music: she established
and curates the annual International Chamber Music Festival
in Utrecht, and since 1998 has been a member of Spectrum Concerts
Berlin, an important chamber music series in the Berlin Philharmonie.
Her chamber partners include Yuri Bashmet, Itamar Golan, Mischa
Maisky, Julian Rachlin, Heinrich Schiff and Kathryn Stott.
At
Tanglewood Janine Jansen will perform the Mendelssohn Violin
Concerto Op. 64 Koussevitzky Music Shed with the Boston Symphony
Orchestra, conducted by Edo de Waart.
The Times:
“Already a huge star in her native Holland, Janine
Jansen has quickly gained a reputation as an exciting and versatile
artist, whose interpretations seem to flow as naturally from
the heart of the music as water from a spring."
